White Rim 2009!
Full! No more spots available. The White Rim ~ October 16,17,18,19, 2009!
We will be departing from Moab early on Friday the 16th, 2009!, returning to town late on the 19th. Dates are solid and all spots are taken. There is a waiting list, so if there is any doubt, please let us know so we can include someone else.
This is NOT a commercial trip in any sense of the word. This is a party, a camping trip for our friends. We will be sharing food and fuel costs--just take care of yourself. This trip can be a bike trip, or not. You can stay on your bike the entire time, or not. No one is "guiding" because this trip is for our guides and friends. No one is working. Plans for riding will be personal, dealt with on a individual basis. You don't even have to ride your bike, if you don't want to. There are several members of the group. The prime focus for many at White Crack will be the scenery and the atmosphere we are creating by making the trip multi-cultural. Fantastic hikes are available from the Crack. Rides from the Crack are icing on the cake.
I took the liberty of inviting people from outside the Dreamride client list. Our lilly-white client base was spiked with members of the Native American Church and professional musicians. No industry people jumped. Do I hear a "Thank God!" from the peanut gallery?
Here are plans as they stand:
Bruce, Sarah, Miki and I all have experience camping on the White Rim, so we can help everyone understand what is needed via email. As the dates draw closer, Miki will be here to help you reserve any camping gear, bike rentals, lodging, and whatever else you might need on the trip or in Moab before and/or after departure. Call her at 435-259-6419, when needed. Gearheads in Moab has rental tents, bags and such, so if you want to contact them and reserve needed supplies, call 435-259-4327.
White Crack is a private camp spot in Canyonlands National Park. We will be the only group at the site for the entire time. It is smack dab in the middle of the White Rim Trail, many miles from surrounding spots. There's no snack bar and no other campers around us--just a pit toilet and a place to build a tent community. Bruce Condi, our guide, scored the permit on his own personal dime. He has worked for the Park Service, so he was able to place the application at just the right time to get best dates. Thank you, very much, Bruce! We are "guests of Bruce." Dreamride is sharing the invitation. If you are asked, you are part of the "Condi group."
The most interesting thing for me, personally, is the chance to enjoy music. Rory, bring something to beat on. Mark, bring a guitar, flute, hand drum, whatever you feel like bringing. I will take a couple of guitars and carry any instruments in the Sequoia. Bring the prayer tools! This will be a celebration, a magical place to pray for our family and future.
More info will be posted here for participants as time passes. We have lots of time to prepare.
